Part II of SEO Basics
Welcome to the second part of my very simple 10 steps to get some SEO on the website. In this post there are five more basic steps do give your site a boost in the rankings, and along with other strategies can really make a difference. If you missed part one of this post, click this link to check it out.
Every time you post or edit either a posting or a page your Wordpress blog can notify a varietyof different sites that you have updated your blog. Many people do not use or even know about this. If you ping your site, it will rank much quicker than waiting for bots to find it. A very useful and worthwhile process.
Cross Linking Posts and Pages
It is advisable to link your own posts and pages to other relevant content on your site within the text using keywords or a variation of (don’t stuff a post with keywords for the sake of it). For example, I recommend you check out part 1 of my basic SEO post here. This will help the web crawlers examine your site and index all of your posts.
A good tipis to highlight relevant posts as the end of your post also. You can have as many as you like, but too many can look silly. Related posts under all your postings have proven to be a good way of increasing user time on your site and reducing bounce rate. Both of these factors increase site authority and help SEO and ranking. It too helps the web crawlers examine your site and index all of your posts.
A sitemap is a file where you can list the web pages of your site to tell search engines about the organization of your site. Search engine web crawlers read this file to more intelligently crawl your site. A good sitemap can have a big effect on SEO.
Categories will help you organize your content. If you have your permalinks turned on, the category names will appear in your URL (which is recommended). This is why it is very important that you name your category carefully. Use keywords to name your categories and do not be afraid to make loads of them. You can use subcategories to link posts together which will then be identified in sitemaps.
If you use the basic SEO steps you improve your site rankings. However, the internet is a competitive place and the days of just doing a few posts, stuffing them keywords, and expecting a top five ranking are long gone.
A real interest in a subject combined with a regular posting schedule combined with interaction with your audience eager through commenting, sharing, social media activity are all also required.
Hope you enjoy…
